I say this as a MASSIVE LotR fan. I watch the extended trilogy multiple times a year. This book is really, really average. Maybe the novelty of the time in which it was released, but I'm desperate to find time and energy to finish it with my 10 year old, and it's a chore for me. I'm at the point where I'm skimming pages when I read it out loud to him. You can quote me. I'm not sure if I'll ever actually read the trio

I can tell this is going from a 4-star when I read it in 2013, to a 3-star as I near the end of it. My god.
