Oof. Not an easy book to get through but so very rewarding if you stick with it! A holistic scientist and his (extremely) outsider artist girlfriend get caught up in exotic drug trade shenanigans which result in a plague of deadly nightmares descending on the stiflingly described city of New Crobuzon. And above it all, like Polanski's titular Chinatown, stands the specter of the Perdido Street Station tower...
