Meltha These weren't all written this year, but I did read (or re-read) them in 2017. Top 5 in different genres, in no particular order.
Unwind - Neal Schusterman - A YA dystopian novel on the results of a second American Civil War fought over abortion. The result is abortion becomes illegal, but with the option of having an unwanted child "unwound," essentially recycled as organ donations, as a teenager. Really strange premise that looked at both sides very critically.
Ready Player One - Ernest Cline - I could not put this down. Nostalgic trip through the 1980s mixed with sci-fi.
Bound - Donna Jo Napoli - A retelling of the Yeh-Shen version of Cinderella, set in China, dealing with the main character's attempts to escape her bleak life.
Lost City of the Monkey God - Douglas Preston - fascinating and thrilling peek into a real archeological stunner
Astrophysics for People in a Hurry - Neil deGrasse Tyson - I don't completely understand everything, but the sense of awe at all the stuff the universe can do is overwhelming

Matt Kime My favorite from this past year is Ready Player One. And if you like audiobooks, Wil Wheaton's reading of RPO is fantastic.
