When self-knowledge arouses in a soul sorrowful contrition at the same time as ardent love, profound adoration and the most elevated aspirations, the feeling of its own powerlessness w/most generous resolutions, one can declare it authentic: it bears the divine mark of its origin, which is peace, spiritual balance, freedom and fecundity.

In Chapter on Humility: 4 means for acquiring: 1) fruit of Light of God on Soul--we are utterly dependent on Him for this virtue; 2) Prayer--nevertheless we still must ask for His Divine favor; 3) No less important to receive His favors well; 4) Another response, less agreeable, but to be accepted w/same gratitude, HUMILIATION.

Do you know when people really become spiritual? It is when they become slaves of God and are branded with His sign, which is the sign of the Cross, in token that they have given Him their freedom.
