I had no plans of ever rereading this book - even gave my copy away to a friend 1-2 years ago - but I was recently reminded of Chakraborty's incredible knowledge of Islamic history and decided to return to this story; it helps that 2019 me rated this 5 stars and I hope I have a similar reaction by the end of it.

I've known Nahri for only one chapter and I already love her. Also, I'm glad I have prior knowledge about Egypt, the Arabic language and Islam because some of these terms would be lost to me.
