If collecting wood outdoors, look for hardwoods (maple, oak, beech, etc.) rather than softwoods (pine, fir, cedar, spruce). Softwoods tend to burn faster and smokier than hardwoods, and they will give food a rotten flavor.

Always be aware of the common signs of dehydration, including increased thirst, dry mouth, headache, fatigue, dizziness, and infrequent, bright yellow urine. Once you begin to experience these, it's time to replenish your fluids.

Well, one would think you'd want to replenish BEFORE the bright yellow urine, (or dark yellow, as bright usually means an overabundance of vitamin C) surely???

Generally speaking, people today tend to lack even the most basic survival skills. For characters on The Walking Dead, those skills became necessities after the farms and factories ceased their output and the store shelves were picked clean. Their new world left them no other option if they wanted to remain among the living. Fires had to be built. Water had to be boiled. Food had to be foraged and hunted.
