”Bennett,” I whispered. “You asleep?”
“Hmm… Huh, I’m up. What do you need?”
I grinned into the gray darkness. “Will you take me on a date?”
He gave a quiet chuckle. “Yes, Rory. I’d be honored to take you on a date.”
I’m deeply in love with this book.

I remembered what he’d said about his doctor’s theory of skin hunger. Even if he hadn’t wanted me to kiss him, he definitely wanted me to touch him, regardless of my gender.

“Have you ever heard of skin hunger?”
“Sounds vaguely cannibalistic.”
Dr. Conlan’s tinkling laughter bounced off the walls of the cozily furnished office. “Not literal hunger. ‘To hunger’ is defined as ‘to have a strong desire or craving for something of which one does not have enough—food, knowledge, sex, love, touch.
This book ticks all my happy boxes. (The psychologist in me is so happy right now!)

I closed my eyes and imagined one of the only joys in my life—being touched. It was like my body craved it, and without it, I wilted. Simple things like holding hands, kissing, even a one-armed bro-hug from a friend, warmed me like nothing else did. It was only when the touch turned sexual that I became anxious.
Oh, Rory..
