I wish the blurb for the book didn't describe the talents of the Ribkins as "super-powers" because it gave me a preconceived notion that too 100+ pages to get over. These are talents in the magical realism sense, similar to some characteristics of characters of the Buendia family in "100 Years of Solitude." This book has hidden depths.
