“Waste is the fuel of contradiction, and contradiction activates the economy, and an active economy creates more waste.”

This is a very interesting society view of 80’s Japan. As outsiders we might look at Japan from the tourist’s eye, always impressed by it’s luscious culture. But in this short passage, Murakami has revealed a glimpse of the lenses of an insider.

“But anyway, he was dead. Nothing more. Maybe that’s the best thing about death.”

This might sound disturbing. But to be honest, I’ve always wanted to know what dying felt like. This quote sent me deeper into the abyss of curiosity and struck lots of thoughts and questions into my head that “would sound insane to a normal person”, according to my father.
