Danna yOU KNow Russian? That is so cool!

Someoneyouknow Thanks. Yeah, I know Russian, it's unofficially the second native language in my country (Ukraine) where pretty much everyone is bilingual. But this book is actually in Ukrainian.

Danna Oh, Ukraine. Well, I know the story, I have a friend who lived there.

Someoneyouknow Wow, really? That's interesting. What did she/he say about living in Ukraine?

message 5: by Danna (new)

Danna She said it was pretty cool, but she doesn't remember much for she moved to Israel at the age of 8 or 9

Someoneyouknow Ah, I see. Yeah, Ukrainians are all over the world. And you are American, right?

message 7: by Danna (new)

Danna No, I'm not, actually :)

Someoneyouknow Oh, sorry. You just have "United States" written on your GR page.

Danna I know, that's a former address (: I moved here years ago. I still have the US tag, though... Well that's mostly due to political reasons. A couple of times ppl wouldn't talk to me bcs my country is in the middle of quite a long international political fight (:

Someoneyouknow Uh-huh. Just a wild guess - you don't happen to be from Iraq? Honestly, I can't remember any other countries "in the middle of quite a long international political fight". Except maybe North Korea.

message 11: by Danna (new)

Danna Not Iraq. Not any Muslim country (: It does not really matter where exactly.

Someoneyouknow Of course, sorry. This whole nationality thing is not really important.

Danna Have you read any good books lately? (I hope this one is good! What is it translated to, please?)

Someoneyouknow Yes, sure. I've enjoyed reading several Daphne du Maurier novels ("Rebecca", "My Cousin Rachel", "Jamaica Inn"), I absolutely loved Amy Tan's "Joy Luck Club" and Orwell's "1984". Among YA books I found "The Hole" by Guy Burt to be very interesting in a OMG-I-didn't-see-it-coming way.
This book's title can be translated as "Grown-up Children". It's a very interesting coming-of-age novel + it's not often that I read books set in my own country.
And what about you? Any books you'd recommend?
