My creative writing teacher burst my bubble with the comment "melodramatic writing, consider revising" or something to that effect.

Ugh, that's just THE WORST! Description seems to have gone out of fashion in modern writing, but I think nothing sets the mood quite like good old poetry in prose form, so just keep writing it, girl! ;)
