I think I agree with people who have suggested that you just keep reading. No, you aren't going to get everything, but if you try to over-analyze everything, you'll stop enjoying it very quickly.

Working through the drive to the funeral.

Actually, very poignant. It seems that is how many people would interact. It's as though they are trying to be respectful and pious, but really, they are just catching up as old friends.

On his wise shoulders through the checkerwork of leaves the sun flung spangles, dancing coins.

This may be my favorite line of English prose, full stop.

Incredible. It's no wonder this work is considered the best novel ever written in the English language.

"Ghoul! Chewer of corpses!" - I hope, one day, to use this in an appropriate context. Though, not about my own mother, I pray!

Once again, I begin. I've started this too many times, but I am (one day) going to finish this tome.

I am hoping, with the success of my previous goodreads, that this status option will help me track the progress I am making.
