‘You know, Dickon,’ he said, suddenly so serious that he surprised himself as much as Richard, ‘you’d do best not to measure yourself by Ned’s standards. Ned is a law unto himself, in more ways than one. You need not look so troubled. I’m not saying Ned’s standards are at fault, merely that they’re his. And anytime you try to walk around in someone else’s boots, you’re apt to find them a poor fit.’

And back to having my heart broken.
One of the big mysteries of the Yorkist brothers has always been why George was still able to command men after having betrayed his own brother and King not once but twice with the intent of dethroning him. I know he didn't have the position of trust, but still enough influence to cause discontent. I don't get it.

Book 1 finished (yay me!), and I'm dreading what is to come next. Really not looking forward, but not able to stop either.

’What does matter most is not that we err. . . . It is that we do benefit from our mistakes, that we are capable of sincere repentance, of genuine contrition.’
I keep telling myself ‘stop quoting in status updates’, but nope, it’s too good.

‘You are Ned’s brother and it is only right that he should command your loyalties. However, I’ll admit to being disappointed in you, Cousin. You see, I would have thought that I, too, laid claim to your loyalties.’ Richard looked stricken.
‘You do!’
‘I would hope so, Dickon,’ Warwick said slowly. ‘For I confess, it would be painful to think otherwise.’
This book may very well break me.

While memories could comfort, they could also rend without pity.
