I don't like the witholding of information achronologically. It didn't work in the last book - I didn't really care about Collie's betrayal by the time we got to it - and it is contrived here. I don't think it works as a device, because the suspense is articficial. What happened has already happened i.e. it won't affect the real time plot, so it's just unnecessary and tedious sort of suspense.
