I'm not a quitter, but I'm struggling here and it's my fault..I haven't read his other books and don't know the history of the characters, so I'm missing anything that's alluded to and the long, difficult to pronounce names are killing me.

Often you can pick up a new book from a series and glean enough information to make it work. There are parts I enjoy reading, but I know I'm missing a lot and confused.
