Seen throughout the book is Celaena representing the fierce female warrior who has to overcome the fight of the champions to earn her place and her freedom, in a world (man dominant) by a cruel king. Set in a time where the kingdom is strictly patriarchal, she has to prove herself worthy. I think this story represents the struggle many women have today in the face of men with abusive power.
