A rather slow-to-develop story, which may be a net positive if the payoff is good enough. Quite a bit of the book is devoted to Mortimer's youth in India, including his first meeting with Blake. The current-day plot doesn't seem to make much sense at all, but we'll see.

Huh. I think I paused too long between readings, because this last portion of the book was just flat and uninteresting. Think I'll jump back about two dozen pages and try again.
