This book is- as all Erikson's books- intense with content, hence the slow-paced reading progress.
Change the cover and the frame, but Erikson is still the same; " push and pull (oppon), imbalance and suffering (malazan),...etc.
FYI, this isn't necessary a bad thing, you all know Erikson is a God to me, and so we ravel in these subjects ever more...

I adore how Erikson is using Sam as his kinda own personification in his own book and punning himself soo hard!!! I honestly, usually wouldn't be interested in this stuff but then again.... it is... Erikson!!!
