I'm trying. I've put this down for like two months now because it's really taking it's time getting to the killer mermaids. The writing is beautiful, but a lot of the beginning is just filler. Maybe even "pacing" if you feel like being generous, which I don't, because I want me some KILLER MERMAIDS.

do find it a bit odd that the autistic supporting character has trauma from being controlled and infantilized by her neurotypical parents, then five pages later the author proceeds to describe said autistic character as a child and infantilizes her in all her proceeding interactions............ seems like a bit of an oversight.

mermaids finally started killing, then action suspended to allow room for introspection and moody dialogue, now mermaids seem to be ready to kill again. all in all, i've escaped the slump i was in and i'm lovin it.

I'm so booooooored. There's so much anticipation for the voyage and I feel like the author is just dragging this out. I'm going to hold on but seriously. SERIOUSLY. I'm almost a quarter way through. Give me some action.
