This is starting to feel a little bait and switch-y.

Hmm, some technical errors so far. Concept is interesting enough, but the first person narrative slows down the pacing a lot. I'm not sure how I feel about throwing in the word "retarded" in the story, since it's an outdated term, and also out of context.
