this is the best thing I've read in a really long term and is a true comfort for me.. but I cannot stand the cliché of authors acting like ridiculous wealth is fundamental to a valuable existence, and so if you're poor but a worthy person rich people will just shower you in money/opportunities.

At this point my main motivation to read is that I want my bitchy review that I write at the end to be fully justified. I am fuming. Such a good premise, so much potential... crackhead execution

the only possible end in sight is waiting until the next time i'm wine drunk and writing a giant depressing review of this book

I had such high hopes for this book, but it peaks EARLY (if you want a fantastic short story with no plot, read the first 75 pages). It had so much potential, but this is the problem: there's no growth, no change.
It's standard for a story to begin with a protagonist who can't connect with others and can't express his feelings. But decades pass and there is zero development. It's frustrating
