...I think, for me, the problem is that the two main characters do not feel fully fleshed out and I'm letting my frustrations with "Mother Erin" get in the way. On the other hand I think of people who have said you can't be gay and Christian and I so, so, so want this book to work for me as I think you can be both...I don't mean to on so much, I just wasn't expecting to be so affected by this in the way that I am.

...then how can you date another woman and engage in passionate kissing? It seems to me that the main character wants to bypass the clause, which is frustrating to me, though, as a spiritual person, I do understand the deep and painful struggles that come with being a gay Christian. I like the writing and the topics the writer is willing to openly discuss, but there is also something missing I can't put my finger on.

I honestly don't know what to make of this book...despite its sincere and very interesting take on being committed to one's faith while also being gay, I find it a bit inconsistent at times. If you are clergy in a church that is not terribly gay friendly and wants you to sign a "celibacy clause," how you can also preside over a lesbian wedding at that same church? If you ARE willing to commit to the clause... (TBC)
