Just when a character makes up their mind about something, or learns something, they choose the opposite with no explanation.

I picked this one up from the author at a Renaissance festival. The language is flowery, which I'm not used to, but I've kept the eye-rolling to a minimum and am just trying to enjoy it. The story itself is pretty good thus far, though the pacing is uneven and I've had trouble following the passage of time. I've had a couple of "wait, I thought it was still winter, how long did that last bit take?" moments.
