Read up to page 415 of A History of Ancient Egypt: Volume II by John Romer. Lots of archeology of the copper mines of the Sinai desert and their trading routes by the Red Sea during the reestablishment of the Memphis court during the Middle Kingdom.
Know it's not everyone's couple of tea, but Romer does a good job in establishing the importance of the copper trade and torquies trade to the Egyptians.
