Just checked and this is self published and a new author (as far as I can tell). This is a perfect example of why I recommend new authors go with a publisher first. It's a good idea but needs a lot of content editing to tighten it up and get it back on track.
And if you're going to have an arsehole for your MC balance him out with the other characters POV and for God's sake give him a redemption arc.

Emery is a hard character to like.
