Hew boy, I forgot that first story just loads up on the racial slurs. Yeah yeah “the times” but wow oh wow a person could toss around some bold language in what appears to be a pretty genial story about searching for your lost love. (Tobin’s Palm)

The Gift of the Magi is probably the most well known O. Henry story, and one of my favourites. Definitely forgot that Della believes herself to be “owned” by her husband. I know I have a lot of this stuff coming up, but it has been long enough since I’ve read any of these that I’m starting to realize my brain is in a VERY different place than it used to be. Still a master storyteller just. Yeah.
