The sass on little Mattie Ross is very entertaining.

It’s good, but gets bogged down in parts.

I’m conflicted as to how I feel about the narrator Mattie Ross. On one hand I like her spirit, and on the other hand I find it at times very abrasive and unpleasant.

The narration doesn’t read like the point of view of a spunky 14 year old girl, but I have to keep reminding myself that the narrator, much like Scout in Mockingbird, is narrating in retrospect.

“The wicked flee when none pursueth.”
