Annie is worried that the Nazi's will come for her. Her dad had suggested to Annie's mother to move to America, but she denied, because she had headache. Soon after that the Nazi's started to come but they didn't do any harm, because they hadn't been ordered to do any harm YET. "Jews weren't aloud to travel anymore, Jews weren't aloud to do anything!" (18) Annie was upset about how she didn't get to do anything.

Annie's mother slowly starts getting sick. Everyone is the family is suggesting her to eat more food to get some Vitamin. "Mother you should really eat your beans, they've got vitamins in them!" (87)

Nothing has happened yet to Annie. Annie still has to be worried because Nazi's are everywhere. Some are nice, some are mean. "If it wasn't for the miserable war, I would be at the party." (53) This means that she can't go anywhere without the Nazi's asking her what's she doing or where she's going, or send her back home.
