“We have come.” Rowan paused for effect, her throaty voice echoing around the empty Town Square. “For our God.”
Darcy waited three beats, she could do dramatic pauses too. “You lost a God? That seems rather careless of you. Well, no one has reported stumbling over a lost God. I suppose I could check the lost and found box, if you’d like?”

One of the copious mental healthcare professionals Darcy had been dragged to as a small child by her mother - Sarah desperate to understand why her child was so unique, and in search of tools in how to manage said unique child - had diagnosed Darcy as having a Wrath of God complex.
It was a bold diagnosis to saddle a four year old with. And it had peeved her mother off no end to hear it.

“They’re just little logs at the moment who poop a lot, how can you be sure they’ve come into their magic?”
“Theo was lying on a prickly layer of cacti, matching his body shape exactly, happy as larry. And Asher? He tried to fake me out.”
“Asher? The two month old tried to fake you out?”
“He was pretending to nap.”
“You sure he wasn’t actually napping?”

“When I initially became Special Liaison, gift wrapping was one of the first classes the High Council insisted I take.” Darcy sipped her wine, smiling in memory. “I thought they were all bonkers… at first. But then I got it. Nothing drives home a win more absolutely for the Sanctuary than a severed head delivered in a Hello Kitty box, topped with a big gingham bow.”

“Whoa.” Darcy held a palm up as Declan reached down to unbutton the fly of his jeans. “And I say again, what the hell are you doing?”
Declan grinned, skimming his jeans down and kicking them away. Darcy was… relieved… yeah, completely relieved to note he was wearing black butt-hugging jockey shorts. Phew, riot avoided. Although could you have a riot of one?

Declan emerged from the car, the mysterious breeze sweeping back those over long locks and making the edges of his torn t-shirt flutter and flap. Now you see firm enticing abs, now you don’t. Every female in the Town Square sighed at the same time. Darcy almost felt her ears pop at the change in air pressure.
Crap, she had to get Declan out of sight before he incited a riot.

“Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that the birds help you get dressed each morning.”
“Not since I was twelve. We had a parting of ways because they kept pairing spots and stripes together. Made me look like a clown.”
The sad thing was, Darcy couldn’t be a hundred percent sure he wasn’t telling the truth.
