This is an entertaining book- I like the anecdote about the “b” in “debt” being inserted when English speakers became obsessed with Latin and wanted to make the word’s roots more recognizable. However, I feel like Bryson’s claims about Japanese and Chinese spelling in the beginning of this chapter are umm not correct. Or at least exaggerated.
