Towton always shows how the whole of the war would go really, Henry hides behind his armies and lets other men fight while Edward is out there front lining it. While I do argue that a King shouldn't JUST be a warrior, I also argue that in a society like 15th century England you did have to have good battle skills to survive. And boy howdy does Edward have that in spades.

If you're ever in a battle (don't do that) make sure you have people hiding in the forest ready to come out painted like the Gaul warriors of old, that's how you win a battle. Also interesting to see that Richard got his "be in the battle" mentality from Edward, so him dying in Bosworth Fields makes more sense now, it's how the whole family fought. It's foolish perhaps, but admirable.

I admit that Edward must have had the best luck/skill/charisma in his time fighting for the throne, this guy gets through more battles than any I've heard of.

I had to laugh at seeing one of my ancestors mentioned in this book, Sir Ralph Percy; it's always nice to see what your distant relatives were effing up hundreds of years ago.

It's weird to have 2 Kings, I think the last time they had that in England it was Stephen and Matilda.

I realize I know about Edward's father, but I guess because my family was on the Lancaster side I've always held him a little in contempt. I can see why they were fighting amongst each other in the context of that time, but I still can't see myself getting involved in this. You don't fight against the King, but you don't fight for the King when he's as weak as Henry was.

Started because I realized that although I know a LOT about the War of the Roses, I don't know too much about Edward himself. So here we are, plus it got good reviews so if it sucks I'm blaming you Goodreads.
