I find this book far more interesting & exciting than the first book in the series. However, I'm very glad I did read the first one, as this book follows immediately after the first, in time. The main character, Elizabeth, is the daughter of the woman who was the main character in "The Lady of the Rivers." I would be missing so much if I had not begun with book #1.
