I caught sight of the last page & learned that the story continues. I'll be looking for the 2nd book soon.

Jeanine is on page 176 of 353 of The Orphan's Tale
The story of 2 women during World War II, both very different from each other, yet very similar.
The writing is fairly simplistic, but I am enjoying the story anyway.

Well, after around age 100, the book got a bit more interesting. However, even though it does keep my interest, I'm still not loving it.

So far, I'm a bit disappointed. I'm finding this book to be a bit dry. I do love the classics & usually enjoy them. Hopefully, this will get better.

This is a fascinating book, delving into the manners & morals, as well as a lot of hypocrisy, of a wealthy family & the people in their circle.

This book is so easy to read, which I found surprising as it had been written in 1846. I'm amazed at the drama, the level of intrigue, at many levels of society. It's a fascinating story of people in general, in 1800s Paris. Well-written & hard to put down.

I am truly enjoying this book. The characters are mostly likable & sympathetic; & the main characters each has his or her own back story, which the author quickly catches us up on, in case we did not yet read the first 3 books of the series. Their stories blend well together, & we watch as each person grows through life issues. I enjoy the sense of community in town, too.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. Even though it's book #4 in a series I have not read, it is easy to read as a stand-alone book. It's a nice beach read or on a rainy summer afternoon. I haven't gotten very far into the story yet; I'm still getting to know the cast of characters.

I haven't gotten very far in the story, though it is interesting. What I am enjoying is the author's writing. She writes so well, with such artistry. It's a pleasure to simply read the sentences.

I'm fairly fed up with the ludicrous "baby talk" coming from this 5 year old. His Ma never speaks that way to him, & he emulates people he hears on TV. Also, he has never been outside this tiny room, never has spoken with another human. Reading this now & then would be OK, but it's every page. I'm curious about what will happen; otherwise I'd stop reading this book.

The world around Mildred Lathbury, a 30-ish woman in post World War II Britain; she is more an observer of life than a participant in it. It's a fascinating story, an amusing one, too.

Jeanine is on page 54 of 328 of The Lovely Bones
I am enjoying this book more than I thought I would. I was afraid it would be too creepy or hard to read. It is certainly a sad book, but gory details are left out, & the author focuses on the family members & friends, how each is coping with Susie's murder. I am also fascinated at Susie's "life" up in heaven & how it morphs as time passes.

Jeanine is on page 53 of 642 of The Glass Ocean
I am learning about each of the main characters, those from the "present" day of 2013 & those from 1915. Sarah wants to learn about her great grandfather, who had been on the ill-fated ship, the RMS Lusitania, which sank on May 7, 1915. The reader learns about people in 1915 & 2013, & the author weaves a story for us. I will also read about what happened to that ship, to bring this book to life even more.

I am enjoying this book so much . I love 70-year old Percy Darling, & his somewhat prissy, but natural for him way of speaking to people. A down-to-earth man who seems to feel or wish he lived in a different time. He's seeing the changes happening in his town & is not happy with them, but can't stop it. He's a curmudgeon, for sure, but he has a kind heart. His late wife is still with him, in his heart & mind.

Jeanine is on page 417 of 480 of Martin Luther: The Man Who Rediscovered God and Changed the World
I just read about an article Luther wrote late in life that was horrible, & it was disheartening. Over 110 volumes written that were wonderful, uplifting, life-changing; yet one tract almost undid all the good. Why did he write it many wondered. He was terribly sick & in agonizing pain for too long, & many wonder if this affected him & even made him vulnerable to the devil's wiles. Very sad.

I have to say I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying this book. I've never read a book written in the 1700s, and, to be honest, I expected it to be written in a fairly dry manner; but it certainly is not. It flows easily & is very enjoyable to read. The Vicar, himself, is telling the story, & it's quite amusing, in its way. He's proud of his family & their honor & longs to keep said honor. We'll see; time will tell.

This is my first book by Susan Wiggs, & I won it in a Goodreads giveaway. I am enjoying it more than I expected. There is a nice multi-generational cast of characters, from the youngster, Dorothy, to a grandfather called Grandy. There's a hint of predictability, but it's a cozy & peasant read. I love stories about bookstores, & Grandy's convinced there's hidden treasure somewhere in it. Maybe there will be...

I'm loving this book, but I love all of Elizabeth Gaskell's books, so far. In some ways, this book is similar to the others, especially "North and South," also an "us vs them" plot, between mill owners & laborers. And there is an independent, yet pretty heroine, too. However, this book also has a stalker & a murderer tossed into the mix of starvation, disease, children dying, etc. Quite intense.

This is a fascinating & unusual story of three 17 year old girls. Each has been accepted into prestigious colleges, & they will be leaving their homes soon. This is the summer before they go, & each is going through personal changes & experiences. It's a lovely coming of age story for 3 decidedly different young women.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway, in exchange for an honest review. It's an entertaining book, a good book to bring to the beach or when staying home on a rainy weekend. It's an amusing story, a romance of sorts, combined with a lot of family drama. The writing is pretty good; I just hope the plot won't be too predictable. I guess I'll find out. :)

At times, this book is difficult to read, in the sense that the main character can be so frustrating. At times, he is a sympathetic character, but he can also be so annoying. He "love" for Mildred is nothing but total obsession; he's such a masochist. However, the writing is so good, that it is riveting, hard to put down.

I find this book far more interesting & exciting than the first book in the series. However, I'm very glad I did read the first one, as this book follows immediately after the first, in time. The main character, Elizabeth, is the daughter of the woman who was the main character in "The Lady of the Rivers." I would be missing so much if I had not begun with book #1.

Interesting story, but I sense it will be a bit predictable. I like Ms. Gregory's writing; she draws the reader into the story.
This is book #1 in the Tudor/Plantagenet series.
I had read The Other Bolyn Girl, & I enjoyed that so much that I decided to go back to the beginning & read the entire series.
