"Consider the least American game we know-cricket. Here is part 10 of its Law 142, which is the law concerning Unfair Play:
'10 Time Wasting: Any form of time wasting is unfair.'
On the not unreasonable assumption that playing cricket is itself a form of time wasting, what are we to make of this law? Is it that there is a proper way to waste time, in contrast to wasting time in a time-wasting way?"

The 4th Chapter, "Taking One for the Team: Baseball and Sacrifice" is the best written so far. It was phenomenal and thought provoking. The author uses the Sacrifice Bunt as a jumping off point to discuss the differences in viewpoints on sacrifice by Ancient and Modern Philosophers.
I'll show my bias as my Mother's son here and come out firmly on Aristotle's side in terms of Sacrifice being for the good of another.

An interesting book. It's a collection of essays where the authors dive into different philosophical topics with baseball as the theme. Chapter 3 had the potential to be very well written, discussing the similarities between Faith in Religion, and fandom for a Sports team. Maybe I'm judging it too harshly since the last book I read about religion was by Fulton Sheen, who is a master at the craft.

I haven't been this excited for the beginning of the Baseball season in many years, so I decided to pick up this book off of my shelf and get into the spirit!
