Turns out the, the thing flying at Harry was three owls. Hedwig, Harrol and this other owl. Two were holding presents for Harry for his birthday and the other was a letter from Hogwarts reminding him the date of the first day of school and a permission form for him to visit Hogsmead in certain weekends.
