"Scythe" is one of those books where the author creates a whole world just for the story to take place, like the Lord of the Rings, or the Magisterium series, aka the Iron Trial series. What is really interesting about this book is the author seems to use an old fashioned tone, in a future world, taking on a whole new perspective. It's a fun book to read in my spare time because the book seems to drag you in.
