Good Girl by Malinda Lo - The story felt too over the top and maybe a little bit preachy. Pocket Full of Dharma by Paolo Bacigalupi - Maybe it's just me, but I have a hard time getting into stories about characters of whom the world has robbed all meaningful agency and ambition. Blue Skies by Cindy Pon - Another high point in this collection. I really liked watching a character who responds to despair with a plan.

What Arms To Hold Us by Rajan Khanna. Solid story, but I felt somewhat ambivalent about the ending.

"The Next Door" by Rahul Kanakia - Hmmm. Had a hard time believing that industrious people living on the edge of a society that is dying and crumbling by way of distraction would choose to scavenge and scrounge rather than build on the ruins.

Read "Gods of the Dimming Light" by Greg van Eekhout. Good story, although I'm probably biased due to the Norse Mythology in the story.

Just finished Ken Liu's story, Pattern Recognition. My initial reaction to it was dislike, as it seemed as though he were defending Dr. Gau, but his blog post about it makes it seem as though he was trying to say the opposite. Weird.

Skipped the Daniel H. Wilson excerpt, as I have already read the book. The Uncertainty Principle was quite good.

So the first story seems to make the case that if we hadn't used nuclear weapons on Japan that they wouldn't have surrendered, which is debatable. As they say, the only justification for doing something terrible is to say that something worse would have happened otherwise.
