I started reading this book after rereading Kemmerer’s Elementals series. The book kind of feels surface level. I loved Elementals because she could reach into your chest and crush your heart with the character’s emotional pain. This new series feels like she just went “okay, let’s capitalize on that” and wrote a book on grief. It doesn’t work that way.
