There is a dramatic change in the manner of writing compared to the previous books. Those were quite concise and to the point, and the plot progressed quickly, but steadily. In the Order of the Phoenix, pages and pages are taken up by conversations that add nothing to the story. The sorting hat's song is several pages long!
Reading this book is almost painful.
