The book feels like a gentle pat on the back, a warm embrace, like taking a breath of relief.

So far, a textbook haunted house novel. What I enjoy is the dialogue between this book and the fictional book inside it, between the heroine and her dad.

The story is interesting so far, but the heroine feels inconsistent, even for an unreliable narrator. Sometimes she acts and comments on things like a complete psycho, sometimes she seems a sweet weirdo with troubled past. It almost feels like she has several personalities that come up in the text unannounced.

Exquisite imagery, delicious metaphors, love the twist on the Russian folklore.

Let me just say, the English in this book makes me cry in pain.

There is a dramatic change in the manner of writing compared to the previous books. Those were quite concise and to the point, and the plot progressed quickly, but steadily. In the Order of the Phoenix, pages and pages are taken up by conversations that add nothing to the story. The sorting hat's song is several pages long!
Reading this book is almost painful.

Just started reading but this book makes me happy to be alive in 2020. Recommended on Death in the Afternoon, a podcast which I also highly recommend.

Also, the author says he experienced depression after his visit to the dentist but felt OK the next day, which contradicts the standard diagnosis criterion for depression -- the symptoms must be present for at least 2 weeks. Maybe I'm reading into it too much, but the book already received much criticism for unsubstantiated claims. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Currently on page 20, and for all the talk about the MRIs for depressed people you would expect to see at least one pic so far. No such luck.
