I pick up Hornby every couple of weeks and read a couple of his pieces. I don’t do it to get book recommendations; instead, it reminds me what I like about reading and how it’s okay to like things decidedly from my own perspective and for my own reasons. Reading is entirely personal with this guy; a book may be bad simply because he felt bad the day he started reading it. Isn’t that how life works?

Out of a stack of 15 books, for some reason, I keep coming back to this thing. It’s a compilation of columns reviewing books. Weird, right? I should be, you know, READING THE BOOKS, but it’s soooooo relaaaaxing to just pop open another witty book column instead. Go figure.
