The problem with this book is that they do very little to convince the reader that the characters are competent. It's like there's one brain cell, and Kate's dad is the only one who ever hold it.
I understand the use of Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass trope. This was just Crouching Moron, sans Badass

It's been a while since I've read a book this mind-numbingly awful.
