There are a number of homages in the first few chapters that I’ve enjoyed - To Robin Hobb, Rowling and Martin. I’m really enjoying Mia’s formative chapters, and Kristofer does the dual timeline really well.

But at times I feel the writing is a touch pretentious, not a fan of being addressed as “gentle friend” when the narrator breaks the 4th wall.

Geez chapter 1 is raunchy!
