So far this is a really great and interesting read. Frustrating at points where I think it should be frustrating and informing in all the ways a piece of journalism should be... And as Cormier requested I am reading this not as political science or history but as journalism.

This book isn't really about Tiananmen so much as it is why Tiananmen happened, and why we shouldn't have been all to surprised. As a survey of democracy in China, it is interesting but I feel like something important is being glossed over. hmmmm.
