I'm super tolerant of viewpoint / narrator changes and errors in grammar, but IT IS AFFECT, NOT EFFECT! And wth is going on with the plot? Your kidnapped daughter is returned to you, but you hold off asking even basic questions of the offworlders who returned her for days? Wtf - surgery on the floor with dirty hands? It is distracting to have glaring issues like these.

The entirety of the story is based on people not saying things they clearly should say. If you see the man who kidnapped a child, how do you forget to mention it for a day? And how did your buddy, to whom you were desperately signing "danger", forget to ask you about that danger? I started skimming after that. I'm not sure why I'm not DNF right now.
