The hero is an ass. He's also weird and a coward. The heroin goes to see him and he refuses to see her for no good reason at all. Then he doesn't tell her who he is because he is afraid of how she will treat him. Then he leaves she out in the wind and rain and when she looks sick he ask her if she is ok.
