I like the ethos of the book, but wish the ideas were more developed. The recurrent sexism of 80's therapy and reliance on psychoanalytic ideas is frustrating. I'm curious about how other texts using this approach address these issues.

I like the way change is being approached here, and the reverence for naturally occurring growth and change. Humility is a challenge when one is invested in their skill as a therapist.
I do have to criticize the suggestion that a couple's problems could be reduced to the female partner's menstrual cycle making her irrational; we don't need to perpetuate a sexist example from 50's.

I like the style of this book a lot. The use of the pivot chord metaphor is exciting. I appreciate the emphasis on multiple model modalities, but I do wish there was more variety of model shown; then again this was written 30 years ago so I can cut it some slack.
