It is a flawed attempt at hard SF if that was the intent. I am not spending $3.50 to resolve the mystery. I only have about 3 pages of chapter 5. The crew is back in Tau space headed toward some star that supposedly has a base where they can get fixed up. The AI is on the fritz and one crew member is stuck on cold sleep with red lights indicating problems.
