This seems to be a trend in SFF. I’ve notice this in other books as well. (This was on my list, but it’s slipping now.)

i bought it because a bunch of articles mentioned it and said it’s a space opera. it’s really more like a political thriller written by someone who desperately wants everyone to know how big her vocabulary is. she also really loves an em-dash.
Omg that "wishes" sentence is making me furious
