okay I’m listening to a WONDERFUL audiobook, but Merry, a favorite character of mine, has an AMERICAN ACCENT & it’s SO WRONG, especially since Pippin’s a lovely Scot. Not ignorably American, either. He’s a horror of a country hick.

I have no clue XD I found it under Root & Twig's albums in SoundCloud. Eowyn's voice was awful too, but everyone else was great! & it's free (& had all the movie music brilliantly mixed in), so, y'know...

Oh, yep, that is the same one. :) I would like to at least try an audiobook sometime, even though I don't usually. If most of the voices are good, I'll probably do this one. I was thinking of trying it someday, cause I've heard it's good in most respects. I've also heard the well-known Rob Inglis version isn't all it's cracked up to be. My little sister also does better with audiobooks, and though I'd like to read LOTR to her aloud, it would take so long that I might let her listen to audio instead. I just wish there was a good version without the movie music, for her first time! (Even if I adore it.)

It is mostly good! just dodge any chapters where Merry or Eowyn speak (Eowyn sounds like the narrator (a dude) whispering) XD

Hahaha, thanks, Els! I will think twice about giving it to my little sis for her first time. Though I've heard that the regular audiobook has some not-so-great voices too.
